The winner of the first THD Instagram research photo competition is Kai Tai. He is a Ph.D. student working with Dr. Igor Bolotnov at NCSU and is a member of the NEAMS-IRP project. Kai’s research uses direct numerical simulation to study buoyancy-influenced turbulence phenomena that present challenges to advanced reactors. These includecanonical single phase mixed convection flows and stable stratification in large enclosures. You can see Kai’s winning photo, here.
