A list of attendees is given in Attachment 1.
1. Opening
The THD Program Committee Meeting was called to order by the Committee Chair, M. Pilch, at 3:00 PM.
2. Agenda
It was suggested that TH database preservation issue raised by J. Reyes be added to the meeting agenda. This item was added to the agenda (Item 7 below) and the modified agenda was approved.
3. Minutes from the meeting at the National Heat Transfer Conference (NHTC), Baltimore, August 1997.
The minutes were approved.
4. Action Items from the August 1997 Meeting at NHTC
Action Item 1: This action item refers to forming a subcommittee to evaluate the possibility of electronic review. M. Bertodano reported that
· it is technically feasible
· he is working out details on templates
· CD-ROM may not be a good idea since there are not many ANS papers at NHTC
It was brought up that ANS Mathematics and Physics Division is already doing it. Also, putting it in CD-ROM and piggybacking to ASME NHTC CD-ROM might be a possibility.
Action Item 2: This action item refers to M. Podowski’s continuing representation of ANS in the NHTC Coordinating Committee and writing an action plan on future NHTC. No written action plan was presented but Podowski reported on general matters of NHTC, see Item 5 below
5. National/International Heat Transfer Conference Subcommittee
It was reported that ANS THD lost $1,900 at 1997 NHTC.
Podowski reported on NHTC:
· NHTC will continue to go through NHTC Coordinating Committee’s organization
· NHTC will be administered by ASME
· In June of 1998, a meeting will be held in Albuquerque to discuss NHTC 2000 & beyond
· NHTC in year 2000 will be held in Chicago, collocated with AIAA Thermophysics Conference
· CD-ROM format is considered for NHTC publications
Podowski mentioned that electronic review at 1998 Winter Meeting has been approved.
Action Item 1: Podowski to report further on NHTC CD-ROM at next meeting.
Action Item 2: M. Bertodano to report on the progress of CD-ROM templates.
6. National Meeting Subcommittee
W. Wulff reported:
· Since he is retiring, his substitute needs to be identified
· Local representatives plus someone to coordinate may be necessary
· The Committee meets four times a year (February and July, in addition to the Summer Meeting and the Winter Meeting)
T. Larson will represent THD at the Wednesday meeting at this conference.
Action Item 3: T. Larson to report on the above-mentioned meeting at next meeting.
7. TH Data Preservation
J. Reyes reported on TH database preservation. The issues are:
· Approximately $1.5 billion worth of large LOCA data are about to disappear unless there is a concerted effort to preserve them
· These data include drawings, facility descriptions, instrumentation, etc.
· There is a need to develop a mechanism to preserve these data
· We need to know where the data are stored and what are important
· Letter to NRC and DOE to retrieve the data from archives is necessary
· It might be a good idea to hold a panel discussion at 1998 Winter Meeting
· Suggest that the session on Advances in TH Modeling (Reyes/Peterson) scheduled at the 1998 Winter Meeting be changed to "Archiving the TH Data"
8. International Topical Meetings
V. Schrock reported on NURETH-9:
· The new dates are October 3-8, 1999
· Recommendation for International TPC members should be received within 2 weeks
· M. Pilch will check on NURETH-9 paper acceptance criteria and ensure that instructions are consistent with THD guidelines
9. Editorial Subcommittee Report
No report.
10. Membership Report
No report.
11. New Business
No discussion.
The meeting was adjourned.
